Gig economy radio programme

Yesterday BBC Radio 4 featured a 30 minute programme: ‘Who Speaks for the Workers?’

The show posed some interesting questions about the role of unions in the gig-economy, whether Government should directly enforce employment rights (think employment law inspectors a bit like HMRC tax inspectors). It also covers the impact of employment tribunal fees and how the current system fails many lower paid workers, with comment from Jason Moyer-Lee, the General Secretary of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain.

Employment Solicitor magazine thinks its worth a listen if you’re interested in the gig economy.

What do you think (leave a comment below)?

We don’t use AI to replace lawyers. We value their experience, and judgment. But some routine legal services can be delivered faster, and better, with AI built into the legal process. Always a ‘human’ senior employment lawyer in the loop, but with routine elements sped up using AI.
